Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, has said Bangladesh has become a global role model for development and empowerment of women as dreamt by Begum Rokeya long ago,
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, massive programmes are being implemented to make the women solvent through providing them with training, inputs and assistance to pave their way for income generation activities,” she said.
The Speaker said this today at a function arranged for distribution of sewing machines free of costs to 90 unemployed poor and distressed female youths as the
chief guest.
Rangpur Zila Parisahd (RZP) organised the function at the city’s Zila Parishad Community Centre with RZP Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom in the chair.
Dr Chaudhury said Zila Parishads are contributing largely to implementation of massive uplift activities, including annual development programmes, of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Zila Parishads put maximum importance on progress of women by providing them with training on sewing, computer, ICT, agriculture and other trades to make them skilled workforce for accelerating development to materialise Vision 2021,” she said.
She said, “Women are contributing maximum to their families by conducting household works, including cooking food, preparing their kids for school, decorating their houses and taking care of every family member since the morning to night every day.”
“The women are also working outside of their homes strengthening economic condition of their families,” Dr Chaudhury said.
“The strong presence of women is now visible in every profession following massive steps taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for their uplift and empowerment,” she said adding that the touch of national progress could be seen in the development of women.
The Speaker said, “The working skill of
women is effectively contributing to speed up
national development bringing down the
poverty rate to only 22 percent now from 40 percent in the country.”
She stressed on involving women in all development activities for further advancement of the nation on way to build a middle income Bangladesh by 2021 and achieve sustainable development goals by 2030 on way to build a developed country by 2041.
Member of the Parliament from reserved constituency Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, General Secretary of district Awami League Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of Rangpur district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mehedee Hasan Rony addressed as special guests.
Chief Executive Officer of RZP Nazmul Huda, Additional District Magistrate Abu Rafa Mohammad Arif and Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hasan also attended the function moderated by RZP Member Parvin Aktar.
In the afternoon, Dr Chaudhury attended a mothers’ rally at Rasulpur Mahtabiya Bilateral High School and distributed corrugated iron sheets and cash money to hailstorm-affected families at Baro Alampur High School in Pirganj upazila as the chief guest.
