As part of its plan to bounce back from continuous losses, the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines is going to spread its wings to new destinations.
At first the Biman will resume flight operation on Dhaka-Delhi route from next month which remains suspended for long subsequent to huge losses, according to Biman sources.
The Biman will operate three flights on this route in a week.
The decision was taken at a board meeting held at Biman headquarters on Tuesday evening.
The flights will be operated on Saturday, Monday and Thursday on the route. The new schedule has already been uploaded at the Biman’s official website the same day. Biman Managing Director and CEO AM Mosaddique Ahmed and other directors were present at that meeting.
From the board meeting, it was learnt that Biman is also going to introduce flight operation to Guangzhou, China from the month after next. To make business access between both countries easier, the authority has taken this initiative.
To Guangzhou, Biman will conduct operation of three flights a week, and plans to operate three flights with Boeing 737 aircraft.
When contacted, Biman’s General Manager (Public Relations) Shakil Miraj told Bangladesh Post that to make the national flag carrier profitable, Biman is aiming to spread its wings to new destinations.
As part of its continuous efforts, Biman is now be readied to reach new destinations.
“We are now waiting for clearance from Chinese aviation authority, I hope we will get the clearance from them soon and be able to operate flights to Guangzhou by June this year,” he added.
It was also learnt that the authorities is trying to take lease of two Boeings to operate flights to Male and Colombo.
It is to be noted that due to continuous loss, Biman shut down its Delhi operation on August 23 in 2014. In 2013, Biman last operated its international flight to Yangon, Myanmar.
