Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque urged the country’s educated youth to take agriculture as their profession, to make regular earning.
He was addressing a workshop on preserving and disbursing quality seeds of edible oil, pulse and spices to the farmers at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) of Farmgate in the city.
He urged all to commercialise the agriculture, it should be taken initiative to make a target for cultivating pulse, oil and spices. Then he mentioned that Bangladesh has to import edible oil for Tk 13-14 thousand crore every year.
Reducing the dependency on import, we should modernize the agriculture and make a marketing policy securing a fair price for the farmers.
“Pulse, oil and spices production should be increased keeping pace with the demand. Last years, though Bangladesh made a sufficient production of rice, it fell on foot shortage sometimes due to natural disasters and so we should import. To get rid of this problem, we should improve our production on granular crops,” he added.
Agriculture Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman said, we are securing eighth position for edible oil consumption and third position for import. The import of pulse, edible oil and spices should be reduced 20 percent by implementing the 5 year project of Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Department.
Managing Director of DAE, Krishibid Mir Nurul Alam presides over the workshop. Among others, Ashraf Uddin Ahmed MD (Seeds wing), Director of DAE Dr Md Abdul Mueed were present there. On this workshop, DAE Director came with his inaugural speech. Krishibid Khairul Alam Prince presented the main speech of this programme.
