Poor and extreme poor people of all seven upazilas in Manikganj district are very happy after getting quality rice at Taka 10 per kilogram under the ‘Food Friendly Programme’, a popular initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.
Under the programme a total of 52,288 listed poor families of the district are getting the opportunity of buying of rice Taka 10 per Kg per month showing their cards issued by respective union committees.
Office of the District Cotroler of Food sources said a total of 126 dealers were appointed, two from each union for distribution of rice among 52,288 listed poor families of the district.
DC Food office sources also said the lists of beneficiaries were made by a selection board headed by chairmen of the respective unions and that were recommended by upazila committees. Each of the card holders would get 30-Kg of rice per month and that programme would be continued up to ending of April, the sources said.
District Controller of Food office sources said the concerned officials were visiting the shops of the dealers and they asked the dealers to sell rice to the poors properly without any irregularity and criticism.
Abdur Rahman an ultra-poor day labour of Mouhali village of Baratia Union of Ghior upazila when taking rice from his dealer at Baratia Bazar said ‘I am happy to get rice at the lowest cost which is very
much helping for us during our hard day.
The programme is continuing in all seven upazilas of the district for the 2nd month, he added.
The government wants to provide food support to the extreme
poor families during the crisis period so that they do not suffer for food crisis, the DC Food office sources said.
