Rush of buyers at Doyel Chattar

Home decors including chandeliers with different colors, traditional earthen, wooden and bamboo made handicrafts, colorful laces and so on are in search lists of the customers ahead of Eid as the aesthetical products can make house and the premises more beautiful.
Doyel Chattar on the Dhaka University campus reflects how demanding these decors are!
However, the place has been doing business since the last thirty years with its nearly 20 to 25 small thatched shops.

Bangladesh Post made a visit to the spot and observed people rush to choose their decoration piece. The passersby either on walking by the site or going by rickshaws or cars make a stop and take a glimpse of the products placed in the shops.

Beautifully crafted pieces are on display, which have been collected from different corners of the country while nearly all chandeliers are made in the city, earthen products are gathered from Borishal, Patuakhali and Kaliganj and the   wooden and bamboo products are collected from Khulna, Rajshahi and other districts of the country.
Besides there are various types of decor made by Jutewhich have beencollected from Narshingdi, said the traders.

Flower vases, plates, glasses, cups, jeweleries and bangles are also available which are very attractive and popular.

A young lady passerby told Bangladesh Post that she could not reset her eye after seeing the colorful chandeliers while crossing the market.
“Finally I becomes a buyer and has bought two lights, a wooden penholder and Jute bag,” she added.

One of the shop owners, Saiful Islam, told Bangladesh Post that generally the place is quite well known for its various types of products like home decor and handicrafts.
Now the market witness customer crowd ahead of eid for the exceptional and attractive showpieces, he said.

The prices of the products are comparatively very reasonable here which ranges from Tk20 to Tk2000, he added. However, the market adds more products of showpieces day by day, though it had little items like pottery and handicrafts made by wood and bamboo in the past.

Chandeliers with different colors are new addition for last some years, which are more popular, said another shopkeeper Sanjeeb.

“The lights are very exceptional. We collect it from our own sources that assemble the light with color papers and different crafts,” he added.
