The 22nd convocation of North South University (NSU) was held on 6 March at its own campus in Bashundhara. Like every year, the Bashundhara campus was adorned in dazzling colours and banners. Amid intense enthusiasm and festive ambiance the convocation ceremony was performed.
Dr Dipu Moni MP, Minister, Ministry of Education, presided over the ceremony. Nobel Laureate Sir Richard J Roberts delivered the convocation speech. M A Hashem, chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, former MP and chairman of Partex Group and Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Professor Atiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
In her speech, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said,“Our youths have to promise to use their talent for the betterment of Bangladesh and I believe all students of North South University can attain this.”
During the event Nobel Laureate Sir Richard J Roberts said that Bangladesh is the first country to gain success in crop GMO research in the whole world so it means its young generation can help improve the situation of food scarcity better. Along with that, he also talked about the importance of good crops and nutritious food for a healthier and more active population.
The graduating class of 2019 with a total of 3486 graduate and post graduate students is the largest group to have passed out from NSU so far .This year, with their sheer diligence and hard work, 2 meritorious students took home the Chancellor’s Gold Medal and 9 others earned the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
Among others, members of the Board of Trustees, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Designate) Professor Dr G U Ahsan, Deans of different faculties and other senior officials were also present on this occasion. Parents, guardians and students later attended a gala dinner.
